Cowboy Packer

The Hoffman Cowboy Pac, with its narrower toe design, is built for use in a stirrup when needed. This rugged boot features your choice of two soles: our tractor tread outsole (which is a less aggressive at tracking debris) or Hoffman’s high-traction claw lug sole (with an aggressive outsole that offers outstanding grip on multiple terrains). While other companies have lessened the quality of their boots or import their uppers, Hoffman’s handmakes every leather upper in our Kellogg, Idaho facility using only the finest 7-7 ½ oz. premium leather. Other features include a steel shank for arch support, triple-stitched uppers, and rebuildable hand-laid rubber bottoms. It is insulated with a 9mm felt liner for maximum warmth or a 400 gram Thinsulate liner, which may be substituted upon request.

Description

For those who still enjoy taking a ride in winter’s brisk morning air or who prefer the look of a western boot, our Cowboy Packer was made for you. Our Cowboy Packer features a narrower, pointed toe that will fit in a stirrup better than a traditional felt pac. A riding heel provides excellent traction on both steep and flat ground. Constructed with our heavy 7-7 1/2 oz. oil tanned leather uppers, the Cowboy Packer is built for years of service and, when needed, can be rebuilt. A heavy 9mm wool/felt liner provides excellent warmth and comfort and features a layer of polypropylene for absorbing moisture away from the foot. The Cowboy Packer comes standard with our new walnut/black two toned leather uppers.

  • Two toned walnut/black leather upper
  • Claw lug sole or tractor tread sole options
  • Standard 9mm felt liner for warmth
  • 10″, 12″ and 14″ premium leathe uppers
  • Rebuildable for years of servive
  • Built with Imported Rubber Bottom
FITTING TIPS: Hoffman felt pacs run true to size. Whole size order the same. Half size order down (i.e. 9 1/2 would order 9) unless you have a wide foot.

Cowboy Pac – Great Boots! You can really tell the difference between these and a cheap pair of packs. Great workmanship with thick soles, great traction and warm riding in sub-zero. Road with standard stirrups but will be switching to a wider one. The cowboy toe really helps find the stirrup and they look cool. I would trust these guys for quality and service and I found them to be a good 40 bucks lower than the competition.

Lets Ride – These are truly great boots. I’ve bought several different sets of packs over the years and these are the only one’s I still have. Great in the stirrup, good traction walking and great workmanship. Only gripe is they don’t have a spur shelf, but the quality and warmth make up for that. Don’t pay more money for less quality. If you want good, American made boots to work in, don’t waste your time with the foreign boots….buy these.

Great Boot but watch sizing – I like the boots except for the sizing, good arch, hold up well. They are stiffer than the Lacrosse Mountaineers that I bought them to replace but will get more comfortable once they are worn more. When they say 1/2 sizes order down, don’t !! I wear a 10 in most boots, ordered a 10 and they barely fit, have to wear thin socks in them to make them work. I would recommend ordering a size bigger than you usually wear.

Simply the Best – These are great boots. I was debating on whether or not to spend $265 for a pair of another company’s version of the Cowboy Packer. As I was searching for them on line, I ran across Hoffman’s web page. Because theirs were roughly $100 less, I decided to give them a try. Hidden behind the comments about the quality and long lasting durability of the boots is the fact that Hoffmans is a great company. I called the Friday before Thanksgiving. I had plans to go Christmas tree hunting out in the forest, so I sheepishly asked if there were any way I could get the boots by the following Tuesday. The lady on the phone cheerfully replied that she would see what she could do. They arrived on Tuesday and I went Christmas tree hunting the day after Thanksgiving in the deep snow at about ten degrees. There is no break in or oiling necessary. These boots are ready to go right out of the box. My feet were always cold. Heat warmer inserts were only partially helpful. I no longer use foot warmer inserts with my Hoffman boots. On a recent elk hunt the car thermometer said -18 (below zero.) To be sure I was walking, but my feet never got cold. The knobby soles make for great traction in the snow, climbing up and down hills through fallen timber. They help a lot with traction on straight ice. . I like the 10”height. I did not want the 14” height that both of the other cowboy packers I considered were. I thought I was going to have to buy extra wide stirrups to accommodate winter riding. The Hoffmans fit well in the stirrups I have. I too wish they had a spur shelf, but I still ride with my spurs I bought the boots before Thanksgiving. It is now February 4. I purposely waited to write a review because I wanted to see how they held up. The workmanship, like everything else the company said about these boots, seems excellent. Be sure to follow the guidelines about sizing. I really like my boots.

Punchy and Warm – Great boot out of the box. Like no other boot I have ever used. I had no break in time with the cowboy packer. I did have to get a little larger stirrup to ride with. This boot allowed me to go from riding to hiking during the elk hunt. My feet stayed warm and dry. My feet were able to breathe so they didn’t get to hot and sweaty. I look forward to using these during calving season with varying Idaho weather conditions. Hoffmans thanks for good, tough high quality boot.
