Hoffman 400G Insulated Explorer: Engineered for the Demanding Winter Hunt
The Hoffman 400G Insulated Explorer is the definitive choice for the late-season hunter and the professional working in sub-freezing environments. Combining high-performance insulation with revolutionary traction technology, this boot provides the warmth of a specialized winter boot with the agility and support of a technical mountaineer.
Master the Late-Season Hunt
When you're chasing elk in the late season, running to the mountain lion tree, or navigating frozen timber, your gear cannot fail. The Winter Explorer is purpose-built for the harshest hunting conditions:
-
Revolutionary Vibram® Arctic Grip: This is the most advanced cold-weather gripping system ever created. Specifically designed to bite into wet ice and frozen rock, Arctic Grip gives you the confidence to navigate steep, slick terrain that would stop a standard lug sole in its tracks.
-
400 Grams of Thinsulate™: This is the "sweet spot" for the active hunter. It provides essential thermal protection during long glassing sessions while remaining breathable enough to prevent overheating during a strenuous climb.
-
Tactical Stealth & Durability: The full rubber rand doesn't just protect the leather from jagged ice; it also helps dampen sound when moving through frozen underbrush, keeping your approach as quiet as possible.
All-Weather Protection for the Professional
-
Sympatex™ Waterproof Bootie: This premium, 100% waterproof liner is a barrier against melting snow and slush. It ensures that moisture stays out while allowing your feet to breathe during high-output activity.
-
Hoffman’s Cushioned Contour Insoles: Designed to keep your feet comfortable during long days on frozen ground, these insoles provide the arch support and impact absorption necessary for heavy pack-outs or long shifts.
-
Rugged Rubber Rand: Encasing the lower half of the boot, the heavy-duty rand shields the premium leather from the "razor-blade" effect of frozen snow crust and sharp shale.

Love them.
Glad I consulted the company about sizing.
I settled on a M10 wide.
Have not experienced squeaking.
Wore them all winter, all conditions. Extremely happy with this purchase.

Sizing notes:
I measure a women's 11.
Need a wide toe box so usually wear a men's 9 - but my marine standard issue's are a men's 10 (Comfortably roomy with summer socks; room for winter heavyweights without binding my toes - the fit and flexibility I was looking for with this purchase).
If I need more warmth than the 400 gram can fit heavyweights (comfortably snug). As is, I can move my toes but I'm otherwise secure. No sliding/blisters.
Personally, I'm glad I didn't head straight out on a multiday in the bush. Wouldn't say they need "breaking in" but where the top back meets my leg (even when not fully laced) had me a little bruised for the first week or so.
I'm not specifically dainty, but I do not have thick lower legs.
Feet were good though.
They ARE overall more snug than the marine issues.
- In short, may want to size up some. Sizing up the toe was a must.
Grat boots, very pleased with purchase!
Haven’t used much yet, but will definitely use extensively for november hunting. Arch support was a little excessive for my flat feet, but custom insoles from Hoffman made fit much better. Very well constructed and can see they will be solid for a long time.
Very comfortable. Not quite as stiff as Kenetrek mountain extremes. Went on tough, steep mountain hunt this fall and was very pleased with the Hoffman’s. Preferred them over the Kenetrek’s. Only complaint is the upper’s are a little squeaky.
